TOKYO JAZZ JOINTS is an audiovisual documentary project to capture the vanishing world of Japanese jazz coffee shops (‘kissaten’) and bars, created by Belfast-born photographer Philip Arneill, and broadcaster writer and native New Yorker James Catchpole. Both are long-term residents of Japan and avid jazz fans, and since 2015 have been visiting ‘jazu kissa’ across the country to document them before they disappear from the musical landscape forever.
