Having quickly sold out at
last year’s festival we’re delighted to welcome The Boondocks back again this
year.
Anthony Toner (vocals,
electric, acoustic and lapsteel guitar), Mark Crockard (vocals and acoustic
guitar) and Marcus McAuley (acoustic guitar and mandolin) have come together to
play the old school country songs they love.
We’re talking classics like,
‘I’m so lonesome I could cry’, ‘Witchita Lineman’, ‘Love Hurts’, ‘Always on my
mind’, ‘Help me make it through the night’, ‘Brass Buttons’, the list goes on….
These timeless classics by
Hank Williams, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson et al have
built the foundations of country music and the craft of great songwriting.
Bearing little resemblance to the so-called country music of today, classic country
tends towards the big emotions: tortured romance, despair, hard work, yet more
heartbreak and hard-won truths.
Beautiful melodies, touching words, soaring harmonies and intricate solos are
the core of great country music. Its musically closer to it roots in bluegrass
than the pop music that today’s country artists are producing.
If you love your classic country and saw them last year – or haven’t yet been
converted to The Boondocks authentic back porch sound, you’ll want to get
yourself along to Belmont Bowling Club on Friday 1 August.
