Join us for a very special session of UNDERSTAND, EastSide Arts' compassionate facilitation programme, in partnership with London-based theatre company CLEAN BREAK.
UNDERSTAND aims to better equip professional artists with awareness, knowledge and practical tips in order to confidently and compassionately work with a wide variety of participants in their creative facilitation practice.
If you are a creative facilitator, theatre maker, community or socially engaged artist, then join Clean Break for a dynamic training session which caters to a range of learning styles and encourages rich engagement from participants, delivered with care.
The normal cost for this session is £75pp but has been subsidised by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Whilst we have tried to ensure it is accessible, if you are unable to cover the cost but are an artist who feels they would greatly benefit from the training please contact aimee@eastsidepartnership.com and have a chat.
What does the session look like?
Led by Clean Break’s Member Support team, this training draws on decades of experience of working creatively with women who have experienced trauma, and providing holistic, wrap-around support. Build skills, strategies and confidence for working sensitively and safely with trauma, in the context of theatre-making and community work.
In the training, participants will learn:
• What trauma really is, and the different ways it manifests in people
• The social context of trauma
• How to implement a trauma informed practice
• How to keep yourself safe when working with trauma
Clean Break developed Leading with Kindness to bring their trauma informed practice to the leading UK theatres and art organisations with which they co-produce ground-breaking work. The principles of this training have been implemented in rehearsal rooms at the National Theatre, Almeida Theatre, Bush Theatre, Sheffield Crucible, Donmar Warehouse and many more.
A bit about CLEAN BREAK
Clean Break was founded in 1979 by two women in prison who believed in the power of theatre to transform lives. It's a theatre company producing groundbreaking theatre which puts women’s voices at its heart and creates lasting change by challenging injustice in and beyond the criminal justice system.
Clean Break uses theatre in prison and with women in the community, and commissions and produces plays which compellingly reveal to audiences the hidden stories of women and criminalisation. We achieve this in collaboration with theatres and other organisations including the Donmar Warehouse, Soho Theatre, Theatre Clwyd and the Royal Court.
Over the past 40 years Clean Break has proven itself to be a trailblazer in both theatre and the criminal justice system; creating bold work, innovating best practices and creating lasting change.
